Lithuania’s President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations, both personally and on behalf of the Lithuanian people, to U.S. President Donald Trump on Independence Day. In her message of congratulations, President Grybauskaitė underlined that Lithuania and the United States of America are united by the same goals.

D.Grybauskaitė noted that the two countries were staunch allies and that Lithuania was ready to further strengthen NATO and fight terrorism, expand European energy security and address the issue of war in Ukraine. According to the President, Lithuania highly appreciates the high-principled attitude of the United States towards enhancing our regional security. “We are grateful for the U.S. troops and military equipment deployed in our country. Their presence is an expression of solidarity and friendship as well as one of the pillars for strengthening national security,” said the President. D. Grybauskaitė wished all Americans around the world a happy celebration, peace, continued success, and unity.

In the congratulatory letter to Vice President Michael R. Pence, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said that Lithuania is ready to open a new page of further cooperation in technologies, science and trade and thus strengthen our bilateral economic cooperation and people-to-people contacts.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius in his letter Secretary of State Rex Tillerson noted that the U.S. remains the key strategic partner of Lithuania in ensuring its national security and underlines the significance of strategic partnership between Lithuania and the United States and of transatlantic ties. Minister Linkevičius said that a sizable Lithuanian American community is actively engaged in the political, cultural and economic life in USA and has contributed to building such a great and remarkable country.

Congratulating the U.S. on Independence Day, Linas Linkevičius emphasised Lithuania’s determination to continue working with the United States on tackling regional and global challenges, with the focus on the unity of the allies and the importance of the Euro-Atlantic community.
