    L. Linkevičius: We have to pay attention to Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova's goal of deepening European integration

On 31 January, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius participated in an informal meeting of foreign affairs ministers (Gymnich) in Bucharest, Romania, during which he called on launching an ambitious strategic discussion about the objectives of the Eastern Partnership after 2020.

“We have to respond to the European aspirations of Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova, and their goal of deepening sectoral integration with the EU. For some time, these countries have implemented ambitious and complex Association Agreements, and a number of related reforms. Reforms in these countries are taking place despite Russia‘s great pressure and military aggression against them. Only by creating an adequate European response and by setting new ambitious goals for the Eastern Partnership, can we mobilize these countries for a smooth future implementation of reforms,” said Lithuania‘s Foreign Minister.

Participants of the discussion also highlighted the principle of differentiation among the Eastern Partnership countries to ensure the success of the Eastern Partnership policy. L. Linkevičius reminded that even five out of six countries were affected by ongoing conflicts. Thus, it is necessary to support our partners‘ European choice and help them achieve their goals.
