The Governor of Pennsylvania Tom Wolf visits Lithuania
On September 10, President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda met with Governor of Pennsylvania Tom Wolf who is visiting Lithuania this week. The Governor also met with vice-minister of Foreign Affairs Darius Skusevičius. Ambassador of Lithuania in USA Rolandas Kriščiūnas, Lithuanian Honorary Consul General in PA Krista Bard, and Pennsylvania National Guard Adjutant General, Major General Anthony Carrelli took part in the meetings, where cooperation in defense, economy and culture was discussed.
The President noted that the US remains the strategic security partner of Lithuania. Continuous participation of the Pennsylvania National Guard troops in military exercises in Lithuania demonstrated military presence of the US and additional security guarantees for our region. According to the President, military training in Lithuania and the US strengthened the capabilities of our armed forces, and our capabilities have been repeatedly tested in joint exercises and international operations in Afghanistan.
During the meeting, the President and Governor Tom Wolf discussed close economic relations and strengthening cooperation in the field of energy security. The US is a strategic trading partner for Lithuania and sectors such as agriculture, textiles and clothing, wood and furniture, engineering, and the chemical industry are particularly promising. According to the President, both parties were interested in developing academic exchange in life sciences, medicine, public health, biotechnology, engineering and IT.
The ties between Lithuania and Pennsylvania are also strengthened by the second-largest Lithuanian community in the US, with about 80,000 Lithuanians living in Pennsylvania.
