FAQs regarding Lithuanian passport and ID card
Is it possible to apply a for the issuance/renewal of a Lithuanian passport or identity card at the Embassy by mail or electronically?
Please be informed that the Lithuanian legal acts do not foresee for such possibility. All citizens of the Republic of Lithuania over the age of 2 must come to the Embassy in person to apply for a passport and/or identity card.
How long will my new passport or identity card be kept at the Embassy?
Issued identity documents are kept at the Embassy for one year from the date of issuance of the document. If the document is not collected within this time, it is declared invalid and destroyed according to the established procedure.
Do I have to bring photos to my passport/identity card appointment at the Embassy?
Photos of the persons over the age of 2 will be taken at the Embassy; however, if a child under 2 years old is not present at the Embassy, please bring 2 photos (detailed requirements are available here).
May I receive my new passport/identity card by mail?
To receive a passport or an ID card by mail, the applicant must bringt a prepaid self-addressed registered envelope (with a tracking number) from USPS or UPS. If the ID card is ordered with electronic signature function please bring 2 envelopes, respectively.
