On September 5, Ambassador of Lithuania to the United States Gediminas Varvuolis presented his credentials to the President of the United States Donald J. Trump in Washington, DC.

During the meeting at the White House, Ambassador Varvuolis thanked President Trump for his leadership in strengthening NATO alliance and emphasized the importance of the U.S. military presence in Lithuania as a deterrent: "The presence of U.S. troops in our country is a clear sign that no aggression will go unanswered. We are grateful to the United States and to you, President Trump, for this."

Ambassador Varvuolis noted Lithuania's exceptional commitment to its own and the Alliance's security, allocating over 5% of GDP to defense starting next year, providing the best conditions for U.S. and NATO troops to train, and encouraging other partners to strengthen their defense.

In his written remarks to the President Trump, Ambassador Varvuolis assured that Lithuania remains an important partner and true friend of the United States: "We are proud of the excellent strategic partnership between Lithuania and the US and our bilateral relations, which are rooted in history and are based on mutual trust, belief in freedom, and common interests." Ambassador Varvuolis also emphasized the successful economic cooperation between Lithuania and the United States, growing defense acquisitions and LNG imports from the US, as well as Lithuanian investments in the United States.

Lithuania's Ambassador thanked the United States for its long-standing strong support for our freedom and independence. According to Ambassador Varvuolis, during the most difficult period of Soviet occupation, the decisive decision of the United States, enshrined in the Sumner Welles Declaration (1940), not to recognize the occupation of our country became a beacon of hope for our freedom. Therefore, today we must unconditionally support Ukraine, which loves freedom and is fighting for its survival, he noted.

"As I look forward to my tenure in Washington, I also take exceptional pride in the great Lithuanian American community in the United States that stands as a vital bridge between our great countries, linking generations, ideals, and aspirations across the Atlantic," ambassador Varvuolis wrote about the special the importance of the Lithuanian diaspora in the US.

The response letter from the U.S. President to the Ambassador notes that Lithuania's leadership in strengthening defense, our efforts in the search operation of four U.S. soldiers in Pabradė, and our shared understanding of the importance of security and defense give hope for the successful continuation of cooperation based on common interests. In his letter, President Trump also highlighted good bilateral trade relations and the potential for even greater energy cooperation between Lithuania and the US.
