Annual basketball tournamet Ambassador's Cup took place this weekend
The 16th Ambassador’s Cup Basketball Tournament, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania together with Lithuanian Athletic Union of North America took place in Washington D.C, on October 19th. This year’s Tournament was dedicated to all Lithuanians living abroad, since during all 2019 in Lithuania and abroad we are celebrating a year of Lithuanian World Community.
Along with 7 Lithuanian Americans’ basketball teams from Texas, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Colorado and Washington DC, the U.S. Congressional Staffers team, the State Department, the Pentagon, DC / Maryland / Virginia Intelligence Community teams, diplomats from Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania and Latvia, as well as one team from Lithuanian capital Vilnius competed for the Ambassador’s Cup.
In the finals, DC / Maryland / Virginia Intelligence Community team won against Lithuanian Athletic Club from Baltimore. Final score 47-33. That is the first time in the Ambassador’s Cup Tournament history that the American team won the trophy. Lithuanian Americans’ team “Joniškio Žiemgala” won the third place.
