AUDRIUS V. PLIOPLYS MD, FRCPC BALZEKAS MUSEUM 2011 "MAN OF THE YEAR"

The Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture has designated Audrius Plioplys "Man of the Year" for 2011. Outside of Lithuania itself, this is the highest award that the Lithuanian community bestows. Among the recipients have been many dignitaries. Last year, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin was awarded this prize. The reason for this award is in part due to Dr Plioplys contributions in neurology and neuroscience, in part to his  accomplishments in the visual arts, but above all, due to the past year's work in the "Hope and Spirit" exhibit and program. The purpose of this project was to commemorate the millions of innocent individuals and families who suffered Stalin's atrocities across Eastern Europe. Despite severe hardships, there were those who were able to survive, due to the resilience of their spirit. This same spirit, many decades later, led to the resurgence of independence in Lithuania, then across Eastern Europe which resulted in the demise of the Soviet empire.

The award will be presented to Mr Plioplys at the special ceremony onDecember 10, 2011 at the museum itself. Further information and ticket purchase is available on the museum's website:
