COMMENT BY LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AUDRONIUS AŽUBALIS ON THE DECISION OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC COUNCIL TO EXTEND THE AIR POLICING MISSION IN THE BALTIC STATES

We welcome today’s decision of the North Atlantic Council to extend the air policing mission in the Baltic States after 2014. This decision once again testifies to the Alliance’s unity and solidarity. It is very important that the highest security standards are applied in all NATO member countries equally, irrespective of their size and geographical location. NATO aircrafts in the Baltic airspace will continue to symbolize the strong commitment to collective defense, which should raise no doubts. In cooperation with allies, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will further enhance their contribution to this mission, aiming to ensure integral airspace control in the whole NATO area.
