DEVELOPING CONSTRUCTIVE RELATIONS WITH WORLD LITHUANIANS IS ONE OF THE MAIN TASKS OF THE DIPLOMATIC SERVICE, LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER SAYS

The development of constructive relationship, based on respect and partnership with a broad and diverse Lithuanian diaspora will remain one of the main tasks of the diplomatic service, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis wrote in a letter addressed to the local communities’ chairmen of Lithuanian World Community (LWC) and World Lithuanian Youth Association (WLYA). Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė  read the Minister’s letter of congratulations at the traditional meeting of the LWC and WLYA representatives which started on 10 August.

A.Ažubalis wished the participants of the meeting to develop discussions and take decisions  that reflect "the essence of an ambiguous reality the family of Lithuanians is facing at the moment".

"I have no doubt that the answers to many of current complex issues can be found only by joint efforts, and the idea of "Global Lithuania" will be a sustainable basis for searching,"  the Minister says.

According to him, every Lithuanian, no matter where he lives, should feel the responsibility for creating the future of Lithuania, so the concentration and meaningful cooperation is necessary.

"I wish you to meet the challenges of today's global world, to base your activities on openness, ambitious ideas and innovative initiatives, to open doors for our youth and everyone who feels like a Lithuanian,"  the letter of Lithuanian Foreign Minister reads.

A. Ažubalis thanked the LWC for cherishing Lithuanian language, customs and traditions, as well as for valuable support in the strengthening of the Lithuanian statehood.
