FOREIGNERS OF LITHUANIAN DESCENT ARE APPOINTED 50 UNIVERSITY SEATS AND 50 COLLEGE SEATS
th the intent of fostering the link between foreigners of Lithuanian descent and their cultural and historical homeland and language, the Ministry of Education and Science is supporting their entrance to Lithuanian academic institutions. The children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of emigrated Lithuanians will be able to apply for nationally subsidized seats at first-cycle degree programmes or programmes of integrated studies at Lithuanian academic institutions. These students are being given 50 seats to fill in universities and 50 in colleges.
These guidelines are approved by the order of the Minister of Education Gintaras Steponavičius “On a number of seats for holders of foreign qualifications, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of emigrants and foreigners of Lithuanian descent admitted to state subsidized studies in Lithuanian academic institutions in 2009.”Foreign students of Lithuanian descent will be admitted to academic institutions by competition. Like Lithuanian students, incoming foreign students will be assigned scholarship scores based on their high school grades. However, these foreign students will be competing among themselves for seats.
