In Washington Foreign Minister highlights the importance of energy security cooperation with the U.S.
On 5 February in Washington, D.C., Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius met with the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy Dan Brouillette to discuss the strengthening of transatlantic cooperation in the field of energy security and emphasized the mutual benefits of the diversification of energy sources in the region, when promoting imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the U.S.
"Energy independence from Russia reduces hybrid threats across both our country and the region," said L. Linkevičius.
In the meeting, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of the 2018 U.S.-led Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (PTEC) and called for accelerating the preparation and implementation of projects under this initiative.
Minister Linkevičius presented Lithuania and other Baltic states' efforts to desynchronize their power grids from the Russian system, as this country abuses its dominant position. Lithuanian Minister again highlighted the that the construction of Ostrovets nuclear power plant in Belarus is unsafe. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also thanked for the strong U.S. position on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
