The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) invites you to a roundtable discussion with Lithuanian Special Envoy for the Eastern Partnership Summit, Ambassador Vaidotas Verba, on the possible achievements of the upcoming EU Eastern Partnership Summit. Ambassador Verba will discuss the parallel events to take place in Vilnius: the Youth Summit, Business Summit, Civil Society Forum, and Parliamentary Forum. The event will be on-the-record and conclude with a question and answer session.

The Vilnius Summit, to be held November 28-29, 2013, is the third Eastern Partnership Summit and is expected to mark progress in political association and economic integration with Eastern Partnership countries by finalizing association agreements. This includes the establishment of Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. The summit will be an opportunity to welcome partners’ achievements in visa liberalization, to discuss further opportunities for deeper cooperation, and to enhance the multilateral dimension of the Eastern Partnership. The summit is also expected to set out new strategic guidelines for the implementation of the Eastern Partnership policy.

Ambassador Vaidotas Verba is the ambassador at large for the special envoy for Eastern Partnership and chief coordinator for the preparations of Vilnius Summit. From 2007 to 2012, he was appointed the ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Netherlands and permanent representative to the Organization For Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Verba held several positions including consular department director from 1994 to 2007. Previously, he was the senior officer for foreign relations at the Lithuanian Physical Education and Sport Department and scientific fellow at the Lithuania Physical Education Academy. Ambassador Verba holds the Diplomatic Rank of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary. He speaks Lithuanian, English, German, Russian, and French.
