Lithuania congratulates the USA on Independence Day
Lithuania's President Gitanas Nausėda, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius congratulated their counterparts and the American people on 244th independence anniversary.
“I am delighted with the successful and comprehensive bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and the United States as well as friendly relations among our people in developing business, educational, cultural, scientific and innovation initiatives. Shared democratic values determine our common approach to political, economic, defense, energy and many other issues on the international agenda. Today, as the world faces the extraordinary challenges and losses of COVID-19, we must remain as united as ever and focus on finding global response to this pandemic and its consequences to be able to prevent potential challenges in the future”, President Nausėda said in the message of congratulations to U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to the Lithuanian President, the U.S. is our strategic ally in NATO ensuring security in Europe and acting as the strongest deterrence factor in the Baltic region. The U.S. military presence in our region is highly important, Lithuania sees it as a security guarantee for itself as well as the entire transatlantic community.
Prime Minister Skvernelis noted that the relations with the U.S. have been and will be a priority for Lithuania. “We have always been bound by common values, and now the ties of practical cooperation are becoming stronger. As allies and strategic partners, we find it important to further strengthen this partnership, which brings real benefits to both the region and the United States. The substantial contribution of the U.S. to the security of the Baltic region is highly valued,’ reads the Prime Minister’s letter.
In his letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linkevičius highlighted the importance of strategic partnership with the U.S., and expressed his gratitude for America’s role in ensuring Lithuania’s and regional security.
