Lithuanian Diplomacy Star award will be presented to Dr. Timothy Snyder

Dr. Timothy Snyder, author of the book Bloodlands: Europe between Hitler and Stalin will be awarded with the Lithuanian Diplomacy Star. Ceremony will be followed by Dr. T. Snyder’s lecture "Ukraine, Russia, and Europe".

Event will take place at the Embassy of Lithuania on Monday, October 27, at 6:00 PM

Professor Timothy Snyder is the Bird White Housum Professor of History at Yale University, specializing in the political history of central and Eastern Europe as well as the Holocaust.

A prolific author, he has written five award-winning books including Bloodlands: Europe between Hitler and Stalin, which has been awarded ten awards, was translated into twenty five languages, was named to twelve book-of-the-year lists, and was a bestseller in four countries.

Timothy Snyder has recently completed Black Earth, a history of the Holocaust, and is at work on a family history of national identity.

His scholarly articles have appeared in Past and Present, the Journal of Cold War Studies; he has written for The New York Review of Books, Foreign Affairs, The Times Literary Supplement, The Nation, and The New Republic as well as for The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, The Wall Street Journal, and other newspapers.

Professor Snyder received his doctorate from the University of Oxford in 1997 where he was a British Marshall Scholar. He has held fellowships in Paris and Warsaw and Harvard, where he was an Academy Scholar, and is a frequent guest at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. He speaks five and reads ten European languages.
