Lithuanian Embassy in Washington took part at EU Open House
On May 14, after a two-year break, the Lithuanian Embassy in Washington, DC, together with all the embassies of the European Union (EU) member states, organized an EU Open House event as part of the Europe Day celebrations.
At the Embassy, the guests had the opportunity to get acquainted with the history of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and the United States, to see exhibitions of Kaunas architecture and Litvak culture, to get acquainted with the works of Jonas Mekas, to take part in a quiz on Lithuania and basketball shooting accuracy competition. Visitors also had the opportunity to learn about tourism and study opportunities in Lithuania and to donate to the Blue and Yellow Initiative and other organizations supporting Ukraine.
During the Open House the visitors could also learn about the rich history of the Lithuanian Embassy building. The Embassy in Washington is the longest-running Lithuanian diplomatic mission, and this year marks the centenary of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and the United States. The embassy building, which has belonged to Lithuania since 1924, became a symbol of the continuity of Lithuanian statehood and diplomatic service during the Soviet occupation.
The EU Embassy Open House is one of the events of the European Culture Week series in the US, traditionally held in May. About 2 thousand guests visited the Lithuanian Embassy during the event.
