Lithuanian Heritage Night at NBA game with Jonas Valančiūnas
On February 9 the Embassy of Lithuania in Washington DC organized the Heritage Night at the Capital One Arena where Washington Wizards played Memphis Grizzlies. A huge crowd of Lithuanian fans cheered for Jonas Valančiūnas who is representing the Grizzlies this season.
The arena was filled with Lithuanian energy throughout the night as the Lithuanian fans welcomed the Grizzlies to the court by forming a high-five tunnel; the Ambassador of Lithuania Rolandas Kriščiūnas gave the start to the game by pounding a huge gavel to begin the game; the halftime was show involved a video about Lithuania and a dance performed by the Lithuanian Folk Dance Group Malūnas, which was officially formed back in 1970.
After a great win, Jonas Valančiūnas met with his Lithuanian fans, signed t-shirts and basketballs. The night was a success and brought the whole Washington DC – Lithuanian community and friends of Lithuania together!
