Lithuanian Jazz Pianist and Composer Domas Žeromskas Performs at the DC Jazz Festival
On October 6, Lithuanian pianist and composer Domas Žeromskas, a young artist already well established on the international jazz scene, performed at Union Stage as part of the prestigious DC Jazz Festival in Washington, D.C. Accompanied by his quintet featuring American musicians Ephraim Dorsey (saxophone), Domenic Lewis (steelpan), Ian Quinton Banno (bass guitar), and Héctor Falu Guzmán (percussion), the artist presented a program comprising his own compositions as well as works by other Lithuanian composers.
Domas Žeromskas and his quintet delivered an exceptional musical performance that captivated the audience with its artistic maturity, outstanding musicianship, and expressive sensitivity. The evening’s program featured original compositions by the artist, including works from his latest album, Meditations on Providence and Perseverance, in which the language of contemporary jazz blends seamlessly with motifs and inspirations drawn from Lithuania’s musical heritage.
The concert program also featured Domantas Žeromskas’ interpretation of Lithuanian Rhapsody (1975) by Julius Gaidelis (1909-1983), a Lithuanian émigré composer and one of the leading representatives of Lithuanian musical expressionism. The performance of this work on the stage of the DC Jazz Festival served as a meaningful presentation of Lithuania’s musical heritage to an international audience. It also underscored the deep historical and cultural ties that have connected Lithuania and the United States for many decades.
The Embassy of Lithuania participated in the DC Jazz Festival’s “EU Jazz Mini-Series,” a concert series that featured Domantas Žeromskas alongside jazz performers from across the European Union. The “EU Jazz Mini-Series” was organized to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States and to underscore the strong cultural connections between Europe and the United States, which have long been fostered through jazz.
Domantas Žeromskas’ concert was organized by the Embassy of Lithuania in the United States and the Lithuanian Culture Institute, in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union to the United States, the European-American Cultural Foundation, and the organizers of the DC Jazz Festival.
