Lithuania’s Contribution to Global Security & NATO’s Missions
Did you know that Lithuania for almost a decade was in charge of Provincial Reconstruction Team(PRT) in the whole of Ghor province in Afghanistan? The Lithuanian-run PRT included military and civilian representatives from 7 countries: Denmark, Georgia, Iceland, Japan, U.S.A., Croatia and Ukraine. Besides, Lithuanian Special Forces conducted missions in Afghanistan for 13 years.
Today Lithuania continues to render assistance to Afghanistan, our soldiers are on a mission in Iraq, we are part of a global coalition to eradicate Daesh.
In a changed European security environment, Lithuania increased its defence expenditures, that are expected to reach slightly over 2% GDP in 2018.
