Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linkevičius Visits Ohio

On 5 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius visited the Ohio state, where he presented opportunities for investment in Lithuania, and talked about country’s economic and political priorities at the Ohio State University.

“We invite businessmen from Ohio to visit and invest in Lithuania. We appreciate your experience and achievements in the fields of life sciences, health care, financial technology, energy, research, and industry”, said L. Linkevičius in a meeting with members of an association of chief executive officers of leading companies ‘Ohio Business Roundtable’.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister encouraged entrepreneurs to look into investment possibilities in the most advanced areas, such as information and communications technology, life sciences, lasers, and financial technology in Lithuania. In addition, L. Linkevičius invited them to attend business promotion events organized in Lithuania.

In the discussion with the Ohio State University students, L. Linkevičius spoke about Lithuania's achievements, foreign policy priorities, NATO, and Transatlantic relations, as well as the ways to deal with the state sponsored disinformation campaigns. In a meeting with the Executive Vice President and Provost Bruce A. McPheron, Vice President for the Governmental Affairs Stacy Rastauskas and the OSU professor Jeff Trimble Lithuania’s Foreign Minister called for enhanced cooperation with Lithuanian academic institutions.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister was acquainted with historical publications and centuries-old manuscripts related to Lithuania at the Thompson Library, as well as books by a famous Lithuanian émigré researcher of literature and critic Rimvydas Šilbajoris, who had worked in Ohio.

The Foreign Minister also held an informal meeting with members of the local Lithuanian community. Ohio has an estimated population of 11 million, of which 25,000 are of Lithuanian descent.
