"Memory is Alive through Testimony"- the Embassy remembers the heroes of freedom
The Embassy of Lithuania joined the civic initiative "Memory is Alive through Testimony", undergoing in all Lithuanian schools and public institutions. The Embassy team lit the candles in the windows to remember the civilians killed by Soviet troops in 1991, and formed a Forget Me Not flower out of the lit candles, which is a sign of respect to the heroic sacrifice that the Lithuanian people demonstrated while defending Lithuanian freedom. The memorial candles symbolize life, light, justice, memory, and unity.
„We are proud that the determination of the Lithuanian people helped us to achieve and protect the freedom of Lithuania. But on the same note, it is a day, which reminds us of the ultimate price that comes with freedom. We remember and honor those, who were ready to sacrifice their lives for Lithuanian freedom,“- Rolandas Kriščiūnas, the Lithuanian Ambassador to the U.S.
