OFFICIAL EUROBASKET 2011 MEDALS AND SONG REVEALED

The official medals and song of the EuroBasket 2011 were revealed on Friday in Vilnius, Lithuania. ‘The medals are of a very unique design while it is a first time in the history that the EuroBasket will have the official song. Europe will once again see how much Lithuanians care about basketball’, said Mindaugas Špokas, the head of the EuroBasket 2011 LOC executive director.

The unique medals were created and made by Lithuanian artist Nerijus Treinys and designers from the company Alpera.

‘The game winning shot is depicted on the medals. Every basketball player and fans know well that sweet moment in the game when the ball falls straight into the net and there is no way out for it. That’s the moment when the loud “hurray” is in the air!’, says Treinys.

It is like a moment captured by the photographer and then transformed into the medal of precious metal which will remind the winners about their glorious victories. The amber ball represents Lithuania and makes the medals even more unique. The Lithuanian flag will remind about the country where the battles for these medals took place. On the back of the medals there are the names of all the cities where the championship takes place together with the logo of the event.

‘We wanted to include a symbolic piece of Lithuania into the medals, the dynamics of basketball and the joy of victory’, says Treinys.

Lithuanian basketball fans have selected the song of Marijonas Mikutavičius, Mantas and Vilija Pilibaitytė – Mia “Celebrate Basketball” to be the official song of the EuroBasket 2011. The lyrics of the song are by Marijonas Mikutavičius and Aidas Puklevičius, music – Marijonas Mikutavičius and Andrius Borisevičius.

‘This song is dedicated to all the European basketball fans, despite of the nationality, religion or the amount of money in the pocket’, says Mikutavičius. ‘The idea of this song is to simply celebrate the feast of basketball and spread the joy among the all the guests of our country. The only implication of the song would be – let’s have a good time, let’s enjoy the great basketball competition without stressing too much on who is going to be the winner and who is going to return home with nothing.’

For the EuroBasket 2011 song a special video was filmed.

‘It was a great pleasure to work on this clip with the so called Three M‘s’, said Evaldas Kubilius, director of the official video. ‘Working with the musicians was filled with great energy, and I can still feel it. I believe that our video will convey and spread this great energy among all the fans.’
