PIONEER LITHUANIAN BIOTECH TRADE MISSION IN MASSACHUSETTS

The first-ever Lithuanian delegation of life science business, research institutes and academia representatives arrived to Boston on a week-long trade mission. A historic visit to the capital of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was co-organized by Enterprise Lithuania, Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio) and the Embassy of Lithuania in the United States. Delegation is accompanied by the vice-minister of Education and Science of Lithuania Dr. Svetlana Kauzonienė and representatives of Invest Lithuania, Lithuanian inward investment promotion agency.

 

 

 

 

 

A signature MassBio event - Lithuanian Day – was marked on September 16 at the MassBio headquarters in Cambridge. Series of events included presentations of the Lithuanian biotech potential and national accomplishments in the biotech and pharmacology field, alongside two panel discussions, dedicated to the Lithuanian investment opportunities and business environment presentation alongside presentation of opportunities Massachusetts has to offer to the Lithuanian biotech sector in development of its international partnerships. A Lithuanian Embassy-sponsored reception was held on the occasion of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of European Union, and concluded the Lithuanian Day at Mass Bio. Members of the diplomatic corps, numerous biotech business representatives, academic community and Lithuanian-American scientists of the Boston area attended this pinnacle event. Attendees took an opportunity to discuss the Lithuanian EU Presidency, Lithuanian priorities in the field of science and technology development and our academic and business potential in biotechnology.

On September 17-19 Lithuanian representatives attend BioPharma America – with more than 750 participants from over 30 countries, BioPharma America is one of the largest exhibitions in biotechnology and pharmacology in the United States. In this capacity, it creates numerous opportunities for new business contacts and to the companies seeking partnerships or project investments.

 

 

 

 

 

Lithuanian delegation concluded the mission with a field tour to selected biotech companies in the Boston area, including Portable Analytical Instruments (PAI) business of Thermo Fisher Scientific, a founding member of the newly established American-Lithuanian Business Council. Thermo Fisher’s Molecular Biology Center of Excellence in Vilnius, Lithuania was opened a year ago. Thermo Fisher invested $13 million in the new site, which expanded global biosciences business of the company and marked a significant step in the partnership between Thermo Fisher and Lithuania.
