SECRETARY OF STATE CLINTON CONGRATULATES LITHUANIA ON ITS NATIONAL DAY
The following is a Press Statement of Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of State, distributed on Feb 14 by the U.S. Department of State: On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Lithuania as you celebrate your 93rd national day this February 16. The United States is proud to be a strong partner and ally of Lithuania. We are working together to improve regional security and rejuvenate bilateral and regional trade. We are cooperating through NATO’s International Security Assistance Force in the fight for a better future for the people of Afghanistan. Lithuania and the United States share a friendship built on common values -- respect for the ideals of freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. This relationship is strengthened by the many Americans of Lithuanian descent with strong family and cultural ties to the region. Lithuania has emerged as an important player in European and world affairs, and its flourishing democracy continues to inspire other nations around the world.
I wish all the people of Lithuania a happy Independence Day celebration and look forward to further deepening our partnership in the years to come. The Office of Electronic Information, Bureau of Public Affairs, manages this site as a portal for information from the U.S. State Department.
