Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania Irena Degutiene Washington met on Sept 14 with U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden. U.S. Vice-President, one of the backers of Lithuania on its road to NATO, said that “Lithuania has always been in his heart.” Responding to a compliment Degutiene noted that “partnership with the United States has always been a priority of foreign policy of Lithuania.” “The Lithuanians believe that the growing cooperation between the U.S. and Europe and guarantee the security of Lithuania.” The meeting took place at the Siluva Chapel in Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, after the memorial mass to archbishop Pietro Sambi, the late Vatican nuncio to the United States.
