THE 5TH CONVENTION OF LITHUANIAN HONORARY CONSULS IS TO BE HELD IN LITHUANIA
On June 11-13, the 5th Convention of Lithuanian Honorary Consuls is to be held in Lithuania. It will be attended by nearly 100 consuls from more than 50 countries. Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis will open the event on June 11. On the first day in Taujėnai, Ukmergė district, the Convention will be dedicated to discussing Lithuania’s economic development. Honorary consuls will be acquainted with achievements in Lithuanian sectors of transport and communications, the most important plans, energy security strategy and main tasks in this area: construction projects of a liquefied natural gas terminal and the new nuclear power plant.
Participants of the event will also discuss key trends of the country’s economic development and challenges ahead, possibilities to promote export and investment, the potential of tourist services sector, prospects for agricultural development and growth in exports of food products.On June 12 in Vilnius, honorary consuls are to meet with President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė. A discussion at the Presidential Palace will focus on the objectives of Lithuania’s upcoming Presidency of the EU Council and the role of honorary consuls, issues related to consular assistance provision and the implementation of the strategy “Global Lithuania”, which promotes the country’s ties with Lithuanians living abroad.
On the same day, the participants of the convention will visit the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, where they will have a possibility to get acquainted with Lithuanian culture and will take part in further discussions.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 13, the honorary consuls will meet with representatives from departments, which are responsible for regional cooperation and consular issues.
Later, honorary consuls will meet with Lithuanian entrepreneurs. The guests will be acquainted with possibilities to organize international events in Lithuania. They will discuss the country’s potential of information technology, laser manufacturing, medical and wellness tourism, transport and logistics services.
The Convention will also be attended by Lithuanian Ministers of Agriculture and Culture, Vice-Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Transport, Energy, Economy and Agriculture, representatives from Lithuanian State Department of Tourism, and companies Klaipėdos nafta, Visaginas nuclear power plant, Danske Bank, Enterprise Lithuania and Invest Lithuania.
