The memory of legendary leader of Lithuanian partisans A.Ramanauskas-Vanagas was honored at the Embassy

Lithuanians living in greater DC area met with Auksutė Ramanauskaitė-Skokauskienė, daughter of the Commander in-Chief of Lithuanian freedom fighters A. Ramanauskas-Vanagas, and with his granddaughter Inga Jancevičienė. The discussion about his life, his fight for Lithuania's freedom and his legacy was held at the Embassy on May 8.

Lithuania is proud of thousands of women and men, who have participated in the armed anti-Soviet resistance movement. The key motive behind the resistance was the goal to restore an independent and democratic Republic of Lithuania. The orientation of Lithuanian Freedom Fighters towards Western values is best reflected in the declaration of February 16, 1949, signed by the Freedom Fighters‘ commanders, among whom was A. Ramanauskas-Vanagas.

On 4 May Auksutė Ramanauskaitė-Skokauskienė and Inga Jancevičienė participated in a solemn ceremony in Chicago of unveiling of the monument to Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas. The ceremony was also attended by Foreign Minister of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius.
