USTRANSCOM COMMANDER WILL PAY A VISIT TO LITHUANIA

November 25-26, Commander of US Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) Gen Duncan J. McNabb. According to the press release of the Ministry of National Defense, Commander will pay a visit to Lithuania. During the visit the guest is scheduled to meet with officials across the institutions of Lithuania. Gen D. McNabb is meeting National Defence Minister Rasa Juknevičienė and Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj Gen Arvydas Pocius at an official dinner at the US Embassy.  Gen D. McNabb is paying a visit in Lithuania to discuss points of transit of shipments of the US Armed Forces for the multinational mission in Afghanistan via Klaipėda Port.  It is expected that the first US shipments for the ISAF mission in Afghanistan via Klaipėda Seaport will reach as early as this year.

Oer countries already transporting military shipments to Afghanistan via Klaipėda are Germany and the United Kingdom. Germany has been transiting freight containers to Afghanistan along the route from Mukran via Klaipėda, Latvia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan since 2008. The United Kingdom conducted a pilot transit of to NATO operation in Afghanistan via Klaipėda this June. The cargo was brought by sea from Mukran and then reached Afghanistan via the route used by Germany. NATO partners have conducted the total of nine shipments through Lithuania in support of operations in Afghanistan this year.
 
Shipment of NATO's international security support via Lithuania is conducted under regulations of the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on international operations, exercises, and other events of military cooperation.

Apart from martial sciences Commander of US Transportation Command Gen. D. McNabb is a Master of science in international relations, and graduate of courses of a variety of qualifications within the US Armed Forces as well as in US universities. Gen. D. McNabb has held command and staff positions at the US Air Force and Department of Defense. He commanded an air squadron in „Desert Shield" and „Desert Storm" operations in the Persian Gulf. He was also responsible for operational logistics and strategic mobility support to the highest grade officials of the United States. General also commanded the Tanker Airlift Control Center administrating a fleet of over 1400 air assets, rendering combat delivery and strategic support, and implementing air refueling and aeromedical evacuation operations around the globe. Prior to the current assignment, Gen. D. McNabb served as Vice Chief of Staff. United States Transportation Command subordinate to the US Department of Defence provides air, land and sea transportation, plans and ensures logistic support and supply to US troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, or in case of natural disasters.
